What is a mojito?
The mojito is a traditional Cuban cocktail, usually consisting of white rum, lime juice, sugar, club soda and mint leaves served on the rocks. Considering the mojito was born in Havana, Cuba, it is no wonder one sip of the beverage momentarily transports you to a tropical island.
Strawberry Cucumber Mojito Recipe:
Ingredients:
Below are the recommended ingredients for a single serving:
- 10 Fresh Mint Leaves: Around 10 mint leaves per serving will offer the refreshing mojito flavor you are looking for. Fresh mint leaves can be found in the produce section of your local grocery store.
- 2-3 Strawberries, Sliced: Strawberries will be muddled on the bottom of the glass and used for garnishing.
- 5 Cucumber Slices
- 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of Lime Juice: For this recipe, I recommend freshly squeezed lime juice for maximum flavor, since only a little lime juice is needed. But if you happen to keep lime juice on hand, such as Nellie & Joe’s Famous Key West Lime Juice, feel free to use that as well.
- 3 Tablespoons of Simple Syrup: Simple syrup is very easy to make. All you need to do is bring 1 cup of water to a boil in a small sauce pan. Then add 1 cup of granulated sugar and stir until the sugar is dissolved. The simple syrup can be kept in an olive oil and vinegar glass dispenser such as this one in the refrigerator and used as needed.
- 2 ounces (4 tablespoons) of White Rum: White rum is the traditional rum used in the mojito recipes. It carries a lighter flavor that pairs well with lime and mint flavors.
- Club Soda: Add your club soda of choice to top off the cocktail at the very end.
other items needed:
- Highball Glasses: Mojitos are traditionally served in tall glasses such a these highball glasses.
- Muddler: Use a muddler such as this one to mash the mint leaves with the simple syrup and lime juice to release the mint’s aromatic flavors.
- Cocktail Stirrer Spoon: A long spoon such as this cocktail stirrer spoon helps all ingredients to be evenly distributed throughout the beverage.
- Straws: There are so many fun straws to choose from now days to dress up your drink even more. Pattern paper straws, bamboo straws, reusable straws or even funny flamingo straws! The options or endless!
