It's Summer! It's HOT! And we need a refreshing tropical smoothie ASAP! One of my go-to and all-time favorite smoothies is the pineapple banana smoothie. Calling for only four ingredients, it is incredibly creamy with just the right amount of sweetness and tropical flare. Plus, it offers the opportunity for this awesome pineapple garnish that will leave you feeling like you're on that much-needed vacation.

During the Summer, a healthy smoothie recipe is one of my favorite breakfast items to enjoy. Not only because it is so easy and quick to prepare, but also because they are packed with nutrition. The pineapple and banana smoothie is loaded with vitamin C, vitamin B6 and potasium. Plus, the almond milk and Greek yogurt offers up a dose of calcium and protein. How about that for a guilt-free Summer beverage of choice.

If you are a smoothie lover like myself, and looking for some new smoothie flavor combos, try this delicious strawberry peach smoothie recipe or this oatmeal banana smoothie recipe!

Smoothie Making Tip

Skip the ice when making smoothies and use frozen fruits instead. This helps create the perfect smoothie consistency and avoids diluting the flavor and creating a slushy texture. Frozen fruits are picked and stored during peak season, so the taste will be just as good (or maybe even better) as when using fresh fruits.

Equipment

The great thing about making smoothies is that hardly any equipment is involved. All that is needed is a knife to cut the fruit and a blender to blend everything together.

Ingredients

This pineapple smoothie is so simple to make as it only call for four ingredients.

  • Almond Milk: Almond milk is my milk of choice. Feel free to use any type of milk you may have on hand.
  • Greek Yogurt: Greek yogurt helps make the smoothie extra creamy and adds a hint of tart. Other types of yogurt will work as well, even flavored yogurts.
  • Frozen Pineapple and Frozen Banana

See recipe card for quantities.

Instructions

  • Add the Ingredients: In a blender add the ingredients; milk, yogurt, frozen pineapple a frozen banana.
  • Blend the Smoothie: Place the lid on the blender and blend for around 30 seconds until a smooth consistency is formed. If the mixture is too thick, add additional milk and blend for a few more seconds as needed.
  • Optional Garnish: Save a pineapple wedge and few pineapple leave to create a fun garnish.
  • Serve and Enjoy: Pour the smoothie mixture into a glass and top with a garnish and a straw if desired. Serve and enjoy immediately.

Smoothie Substitutions

One of the best things about smoothies is that swaps and substitutions can be easily implemented to make the smoothie just to your liking, or even to use up ingredients you already have on hand.

  • Make it Dairy-Free: Replace the yogurt with coconut yogurt, coconut cream, or your favorite dairy-free yogurt.
  • Make it Sweeter: I know some of you love a sweet smoothie! The fruit in the smoothie provides the sweetness, but may not be cutting it. Add a couple teaspoons of sugar or honey while blending the ingredients together.
  • Make it with Juice: Instead of milk, use a juice, such as pineapple juice, to the smoothie. This will add extra sweetness to the beverage, but will reduce the creaminess of the texture.
